Yerbury Primary School
In 2013 our client asked us to modernise Yerbury Primary School, in Islington, London. To avoid disruption to the school we carried out the work over a three summer holidays. We wanted to creates moments of joy and wonder against the backdrop of a handsome Victorian triple decker school, that were referred to as “lighthouse for education” in the books of Sherlock Homes.
We approached each space differently, like a spatial treasure hunt.
For the front gates we used imagery of fairy tales, laser cut into a large sliding metal gate.
Inside we inserted colourful spaces with the double height space, with curved perspex.
In the Playground we used thin metal sections in geometric patterns to create a gold bridge from inside to outside.
